Catarman, Northern Samar -- The members of the Philippine Rural Development Program-Provincial Program Management and Implementing Unit (PRDP-PPMIU) of Northern Samar conducted their fourth quarter meeting, on December 22, 2020 inside the Capitol Building, to keep abreast on the developments of Intensified Building-Up of Infrastructure and Logistics for Development (I-BUILD) and Investment for Rural Enterprise and Agriculture and Fisheries Productivity (I-REAP) sub-projects.
Among the notable I-BUILD sub-project which was completed earlier this year is the Bantayan-Pagsang-an Farm-to-Market Road in San Roque amounting to 55 million pesos. The concreting of the Burabod-Cadac-an Farm-to-Market Road in Gamay is 80% completed, amounting to more than 51 million pesos. While the San Ramon-Canjumadal Farm-to-Market Road in Pambujan with a total cost of 147 million pesos is waiting for the Implementation Memorandum Agreement (IMA) before its actual construction.
Six sub-projects for I-REAP were completed and are ready for turnover. These are the goat production marketing and trading of Cervantes Integrated Organic Farmers Association in Catarman (P1.2M); hog fattening and tradings of Geratag Farmers Association in San Jose (P969,540), Bagasbas Farmers Association in Mondragon (P1M), Samahang Magsasaka ng Allen, Northern Samar, Incorporated (P1M); bio-organic, vermi compost production and marketing of Allen Organic Vegetable Raisers (P994,500); and coco geonet production of Northern Samar Indigenous and Handicraft Association amounting to P8.2M.
The PRDP is a six-year national project under the Department of Agriculture (DA) that aims to establish a modern, value chain-oriented and climate-resilient agriculture and fisheries sector. It aims also to increase farmer's income and productivity and is jointly funded by the World Bank, the National Government and the participating local government units.
Engr. Romeo Cardenas, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator, presided over the meeting which was attended by the Provincial Legal Officer, Atty. Rosa Leah T. Estudillo; Engr. Basiliso Arban and Engr. Gilleny Moreno of the PEO; Ms. Edith Adalla of the PAO; Ms. Camila Sarmiento, PGENRO; Ms. Sylma Lutao of the PIO; and the PRDP Secretariat, Mr. Ernie Lopez and Mr. Robin Cardenas of the PPDO.
