Governor Ongchuan is inclined to extend the General Community Quarantine in the province until April 30, 2020

STATEMENT OF THE GOVERNOR

April 8, 2020
Greetings my fellow Nortehanons!
On the third week of our community quarantine, the provincial government notes with gratitude, the concerted efforts of the Inter Agency Task Force on COVID-19, frontliners, private sector and the Northern Samar community in general. All these are paying off.
The declining number of COVID-related cases in the province speaks of your dedication. Based on the Provincial Health Office and the Department of Health Northern Samar data, our confirmed COVID case remains 1, our 18 patients under investigation (PUIs) tested for COVID-19 are all negative, and there is a continuing drop in the number of PUIs and persons under monitoring (PUMs) in the province.
A recent development of COVID-19 in the region however, sounds off the alarm to us that we cannot be complacent yet. The Department of Health’s announcement of local transmission in the region calls for tighter security measures and continued safeguards on our part, to keep the virus from spreading to our province.
As head of the IATF, the provincial government will ensure strengthened patrols at our provincial borders, continued support to our frontliners and sustained implementation of COVID-19 protective measures.
With the extension of the Enhanced Community Quarantine in Luzon as declared by the President, I am also inclined on extending the General Community Quarantine in the province until April 30, 2020. However, I am waiting for the formal recommendation of the IATF on the policies to be enforced during the extension. The Provincial Information Office will post updates on this matter.
At this point, we call on the public to cooperate, follow health and safety protocols, and seek immediate help if they experience any COVID-like symptoms.
With every one’s help, we can beat COVID-19. Padayon an paglaom!
