Gov. Edwin C. Ongchuan was the guest speaker during the 17th Anniversary Recognition Program of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office VIII on August 14, 2019, at the PDEA RO VIII, Government Center, Palo, Leyte.
Acting Regional Director III Edgar T. Jubay thanked Gov. Ongchuan for being among the staunchest supporters of the agency especially during the latter’s time as a representative of the second district of Northern Samar.
IAV Jubay also presented certificates of appreciation to various government agencies, local government units, media personnel, and other stakeholders for the support to the programs, projects and significant activities of PDEA RO-VIII which greatly contributes to the successful implementation of RA 9165 in the region.
Among those given recognition were Mayor Harris Ongchuan and the local government unit of Laoang for donating the lot which will house PDEA’s sub-provincial office and their K-9 unit in Northern Samar.
Acting Deputy Regional Director IAV Eduardo A. Makabenta IV, in his welcome remarks, highlighted some accomplishments of PDEA RO-VIII which includes, among others, being the first region to declare all jails drug-free, region with most number of barangays declared drug-free, and region ranked first in apprehension of those in government service who are involved in illegal drugs.
